<h2>Matthew Given, a family oriented neighbor, ready to serve this community!</h2><img src="https://run.imgix.net/d3575b7e-a802-4d3c-9273-e362c8ac934e/dfb38ccd-a08d-4dfd-863e-b1f0dc14dc1e/7b8d9701-50c7-4744-b993-f004a1b60d93.webp?ixlib=js-3.8.0&amp;bri=0&amp;con=0&amp;sat=0&amp;high=0&amp;shad=0&amp;usm=0&amp;rect=0%2C0%2C4096%2C2730&amp;w=1500" alt="" title="" caption="" align="right" alignwidth="45" tiltdirection="left" variant="framed">Born and raised in Philadelphia, Matt is the youngest of four boys.&nbsp; Matt was raised in a blue-collar family; his Dad was a truck mechanic and his Mom was a Catholic elementary school teacher.&nbsp; They raised their boys to understand the importance of family, faith, and community.&nbsp; Taking care of your neighbor was a core tenant of the Given household.Matt’s parents worked hard to give their boys a better life.&nbsp; Thanks to them, Matt received a BA from Allentown College (now DeSales University) and an MFA from Ohio University.&nbsp;After college, Matt traveled the country working as a theatrical sound designer but eventually settled into the management side of theatre. Matt now works as the Director of Production for the Arden Theatre Company. In this role, Matt is a member of the executive leadership team and helps guide the organization through the post-pandemic landscape.&nbsp;Matt is responsible for the management and oversight of the technical aspects of all Arden productions.&nbsp; Matt ensures that every production opens on time and under budget.&nbsp; Budget creation and tracking, staffing, and oversight of safety practices, are all part of Matt’s day-to-day work life.&nbsp;<img src="https://run.imgix.net/d3575b7e-a802-4d3c-9273-e362c8ac934e/d50e5c5f-292f-4fda-b7c1-a5cea3605a3a/234d8e9c-b216-45b8-9e6b-81296718c304.webp?ixlib=js-3.8.0&amp;bri=0&amp;con=0&amp;sat=0&amp;high=0&amp;shad=0&amp;usm=0&amp;rect=0%2C0%2C3072%2C4096&amp;w=1500" alt="" title="" caption="" align="left" alignwidth="30" tiltdirection="left" variant="framed">Not long after returning to PA, Matt met the love of his life, his wife of 11 years, Katie. When looking for a place to settle down and eventually raise a family, Matt and Katie found and fell in love with Plumstead Township. The wonderful mix of bucolic open spaces, quaint neighborhoods, and proximity to larger towns, is what made Plumstead Township the perfect choice for them! Matt and Katie now have two beautiful daughters, who are 8 and 3 years old, and are proud to raise them in this beautiful community.

Matt has spent the last 16 years working in non-profit project management. He knows how to build and maintain a budget where every penny counts. Matt works within a team to build consensus and buy-in for common goals and objectives."I approach every decision with an open mind, an eye towards proper budgeting, and a willingness to compromise." -Matt

Matt's Top Priorities

Value Civility

Too often, community members in our township are unaware of the work of the Board of Supervisors, Public Works, Planning, and other township services.&nbsp; This leads to confusion and misinformation.&nbsp; Township leadership must strive to bring more transparency to the day-to-day operations.&nbsp;As Supervisor, I will push for an open dialogue between the Board and the community. Enhance Transparency

Plumstead Township has a rich history and it is up to all of us to preserve the township’s story.&nbsp; We must continue to push for supplemental grants to help fund conservation and work with current farmers and landowners now to build a path towards preservation.&nbsp; &nbsp;At the same time, we must properly maintain our neighborhoods, parks, and retail areas.&nbsp; We should encourage local small businesses to choose Plumstead to set up shop; thereby bringing in helpful tax revenue and filling vacant store fronts.&nbsp; We should update and expand community parks and common areas to include more engaging and developmentally stimulating play spaces for children.&nbsp;<img src="https://run.imgix.net/d3575b7e-a802-4d3c-9273-e362c8ac934e/ecb32a57-a068-4ac4-8f73-5b613304ed68/20f02439-8982-44cd-ab78-bf818e426cb6.webp?ixlib=js-3.8.0&amp;bri=0&amp;con=0&amp;sat=0&amp;high=0&amp;shad=0&amp;usm=0&amp;rect=300%2C972%2C3656%2C1923&amp;w=1500" alt="" title="" caption="" align="center" alignwidth="40" tiltdirection="left" variant="framed">

Maintain Local Charm

Our community suffers from decaying roads and outdated utilities.&nbsp; The board should provide our hard-working Public Works department with the resources they need to update and modernize our community infrastructure.&nbsp;With expiring debt on the horizon, now is the time to take the funds used to pay off those debits and relocate them to much-needed infrastructure improvements.&nbsp; At the same time, we must push PennDOT to maintain the roads that are out of township control.&nbsp;<img src="https://run.imgix.net/d3575b7e-a802-4d3c-9273-e362c8ac934e/90024892-6bb4-4d72-8fcf-f4aa00d31134/7ebd3101-daad-4740-a9cd-6457ca41416e.webp?ixlib=js-3.8.0&amp;bri=0&amp;con=0&amp;sat=0&amp;high=0&amp;shad=0&amp;usm=0&amp;rect=0%2C0%2C4096%2C1784&amp;w=1500" alt="" title="" caption="" align="center" alignwidth="40" tiltdirection="left" variant="framed">

Address Aging Roads and Utilities

Our local Fire Companies are facing increasing costs and declining volunteer numbers. If this trend continues, Plumstead Township may be forced to hire a full-time paid Fire Company and take on the expense of maintaining equipment and gear. This would balloon our township budget and significantly impact taxes.&nbsp;We must work to support our fire companies by encouraging volunteerism, pushing for state funding, and aiding in fundraising. As Supervisor, I will work with both our fire companies to assess their needs and find appropriate solutions. Support Our Local Emergency Services

Plumstead township thrives when all of its citizens are engaged.&nbsp; Whether it is supporting the fire companies, attending a movie night at Hanusey Park, Easter Egg hunts, or Christmas tree lightings, we are better when we are active together.&nbsp;Plumstead township has great local committees, including, Planning, Zoning, Preservation, Environmental Advisory Council, and Parks and Recreation, that help steer township operations.
